Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Fri 26 Jun 2020

Good Morning,

I hope you are doing well today and that your week has been a good one.

Planning and delivering first class activities and events for their business community is something all of our members do extremely well and is an essential benefit they offer their members. Our members have missed not being able to do these over the past few months. Holding quality networking events, forums, awesome business awards, training and workshops provides the platform for local businesses to grow, connect and learn. This is why our members work so hard to put quality events on throughout the year.  So, it is fantastic to see many of our members being able to hold events in-person once again. With restrictions easing even further this weekend, many of our members have events already underway and have rescheduled larger events for later on this year, like their annual business awards that they had to postpone. We know they are excited to be getting back to bringing their members together once again. We can’t wait to hear all about them.

RCCIWA Impact Survey 5 Closes at 5pm today!
Our fifth COVID-19 Regional Impact Survey   closes at 5pm today. We will continue conducting this survey every 3 to 4 weeks so we can gain a continuing understanding of the economic impacts of COVID 19 on our regional businesses. By having this ongoing timely data, we are able to gauge the changing impacts on our regional businesses as well as identify issues not being addressed. We are sharing the data collected with government departments and agencies from all three tiers, and the information is being utilised to help form polices and actions to minimise the negative economic impact this pandemic is having. The survey results and data collected is being widely distributed and referred to. Please continue to share and encourage your members to complete this survey, even if they have completed a previous one – they are being listened to and their views do matter.  We now have over 140 different Government contacts and departments who are requesting this data and it is being referred to widely. Survey 2 and Survey 3  and Survey 4 reports here for your information.

Waterfront Bunbury’s Transforming
As part of Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront, Development WA are undertaking the $10.8 million redevelopment of Casuarina Drive. This work will revitalise the precinct and offer modern public amenities to locals and visitors alike, activating the precinct and providing a new tourism destination. The foreshore works involve significant landscaping and site works within Casuarina Harbour and along Casuarina Drive. These will include upgraded playground facilities and new shade sails, barbecue and picnic shelters, beach showers and grassed areas, improved lighting, terraced steps and amphitheatre seating, upgraded beach promenade pathways for pedestrians and cyclists, and improved beach access paths to connect restaurants and businesses.
A tender for phase one of the multi-million-dollar landscaping and site redevelopment works will be released in coming weeks. For now, they’re calling for registrations from local South West businesses interested in upcoming landscaping works. Local sub-contractors and suppliers are encouraged to register their interest in the project through the South West Development Commission by June 30. This register of local businesses and expertise will be provided to prospective contractors to encourage engagement of local workers.

Recommended Sources for Business Information
Both the SBDC and CCIWA have developed excellent COVID-19 online resources, specifically for businesses. Both of the sites are free, and anyone can access them. CCIWA have also developed a comprehensive Recovery Reform Roadmap which we support.  They are both updating their sites regularly. We recommend you direct your members to these and also have a look at their updates and information for you own use. The Federal Government also has business specific information.

Relief and Stimulus
The Various State and Federal Government relief and financial support available for businesses is detailed both by the SBDC and the Federal Government on their sites. They have made it easy to understand and give information as to how businesses access any stimulus if they are eligible. The Australian Tax Office website is also very informative.

Public Authority Health Advice
We recommend that you follow State and Federal public authority advice in regard to health and hygiene measures as well as social distancing rules.

We look forward to hearing more about the events and activities our members will be hosting and planning in the coming months and hope you are able to reconnect  face to face with your local regional chamber of commerce, business association or business network in the very near future.

Kind Regards
Kitty Prodonovich
